Ayurvedic treatments encompass a wide range of therapies and modalities. Here are some of the commonly practiced types of Ayurvedic treatments:
Fatigue usually stays with us in the form of a permanent mist that clouds our vibrancy. More than just a mere cleanse, Panchakarma treatment by Ayurveda provides a deep reset on a cellular level – a momentous period to free oneself from deeply rooted stress. For centuries, this Ayurvedic therapy has helped people feel healthier by refreshing the body, calming the mind, and supporting the body's natural healing process.
Modern medicine frequently addresses what is visibly wrong – the aching joints, the inflamed skin, the lack of energy. Ayurveda takes a more fundamental view of such issues, asking what could cause the problem in the first place. The panchakarma treatment targets ama, the toxin that accumulates due to the inadequate functioning of digestion, and due to insomnia, and everyday stress. After removing the toxin using techniques such as Vamana, Virechana, and Vasti, one's natural healing abilities get replenished. This phenomenon can be especially evident in cases of chronic disease such as arthritis, migraines, and skin problems.
Digestion (Agni) forms the basis of good health according to Ayurveda, and a poor digestive fire is the beginning point for most of the chronic diseases that exist. The oil and steam therapy at the beginning of the Panchakarma therapy serves to reignite the digestive fire before embarking on the detox process. That’s why after going through Panchakarma therapy, one ends up feeling their digestion has improved.
Methods such as Shirodhara and Abhyanga don’t simply offer immediate relaxation; they actually impact the body’s nervous system by reducing levels of cortisol and relieving people of the fight-or-flight response that they may not even be aware of. For people with conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, or burnout, this can often be the most obvious effect: people can sleep, relax, further resulting in a calmer condition.
When suffering from ailments such as arthritis, frozen shoulder and chronic back pain, therapies like Vasti and Abhyanga help reduce the inflammation while providing improved circulation to the joints. Since it works on treating the root cause of the disease, the relief provided is much longer-lasting than that provided by topicals and other short-term solutions.
Since Panchakarma cleanses the system and restores balance in the digestive system, which is responsible for most diseases, the body becomes more resistant to infections. Most people experience fewer episodes of sickness during the seasons following Panchakarma treatments.
Panchakarma is not an experience one should just dive into without preparation or try at home after watching a YouTube video on how to do it. Panchakarma needs a doctor who knows about your body type (prakriti), imbalances, and health history, as well as facilities ready to handle this procedure in a safe way from beginning to end.
