Ayurvedic treatments encompass a wide range of therapies and modalities. Here are some of the commonly practiced types of Ayurvedic treatments:
For Keralites, the Malayalam month of ‘Karkidakam’ (Mid July to August), the unique climate, abundance of medicinal herbs, etc., enhance the effect of Ayurvedic treatment. As Ayurveda is accepted and embraced as a traditional treatment method by the whole world, individuals from different parts of the world come here to experience this authentic Ayurvedic treatment in Kerala. But you can also visit according to the availability of time. Different seasons prefer different treatment methods. Let’s delve more into the topic with this blog.
Ayurveda is not only about medication and treatment. It goes hand-in-hand with nature , it is an offshoot of the culture and heritage of our own mother land— the season, the air, even the humidity, landscape, and several other factors complement this treatment method. In Ayurvedic books, certain seasons are recommended for certain treatments. It's not just folk tales. Our body accepts herbal oils more easily when our pores are open due to the season. Detoxification will be much easier in suitable weather conditions.
June to September – It is generally considered the ideal time for effective and thorough Ayurvedic procedures such as Panchakarma and Detox. This may shock many individuals who think rain equals bad travel time. In Ayurveda, the monsoon season is most embraced.
Kerala experiences relatively cooler weather during these months. It is also neither too dry nor humid. The body pores open up freely, making it easy for medicated oils to seep into the skin deeply. There is definitely something about how the body reacts to treatment during the monsoon.
It is easier for Malaysians because there are frequent flights to Kochi. Also, there is no competition from the tourists who visit during other times of the year. Places like Rasayana Ayurveda, which is situated in a serene atmosphere in Ezhakkaranad near Kochi, get even more serene during the monsoons. Ayurvedic hospital in Kochi is criticized for no reason, because while thinking about Kochi, the first thing that pops in an individual’s mind will be an image of a metro city, the noise of the busy traffic and an industrious population who is always on the move. But Kochi has another side too. Visit Raysana Ayurveda centre, you can feel it yourself. Because we believe the healing environment is as much important as the quality of treatment. Imagine waking up to the refreshing sounds of raindrops falling on the rubber plants and your body undergoing an effective cleansing process.
A period from October to February is another good time, particularly for those who do not wish to have anything to do with rain. The weather is relatively cooler, the sky clears up, and the beauty of Kerala unfolds. It is also the preferred time for Malaysians to visit as it is holiday time for schools and colleges. Treatments that include stress management, weight loss, immunity boosting therapies, and spinal and back treatments becomes more effective during this period.
Rasayana Ayurveda offers all kinds of programs during this time of the year starting from stress management therapies to specialized treatment for ailments such as rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and cardiac conditions. The relatively cooler weather will ensure that you remain comfortable during the treatment process because you need to be there for long hours.
November and December are also preferred. The weather is moderate, and the environment after the monsoon season makes it an ideal place to undergo treatment.
From March to May, Kerala becomes warmer. It’s not an ideal period to indulge in intense Panchakarma therapy; however, this is a great time to spend some time in the spa for beauty and wellness packages or mild rejuvenation programs. If you cannot come during the peak seasons, you could try March.
On a positive note, Ayurvedic doctors who have extensive experience like Dr. V. Madhavachandran, founder of Rasayana with more than 30 years of experience, will tailor your treatment, and will introduce you to different Ayurvedic treatment packages depending on the season and your particular medical condition. Your treatment program is never fixed irrespective of the season.
Important Things to Keep in Mind:
1. Travel: The closest airport to Rasayana Ayurveda is Cochin International Airport located at Kochi. Flights are available daily and even direct flights from Kuala Lumpur can get you there comfortably within 4-5 hours.
2. Duration of stay: For any significant Ayurvedic therapy, at least 7-14 days are required. However, if you opt for Panchakarma or more advanced therapies, then 21 days should be considered as the best option. You cannot expect miracles in just 3 days.
3. Language: Since English is commonly used in Kerala, communications problems will be rare or absent.
4. Meals: Rasayana strictly sticks to an Ayurvedic diet while under treatment. They serve healthy and simple meals according to your Prakriti (Body Composition). Surprisingly, most patients find their diet delicious and who don’t like a change from the routine hawker foods.
So, The Best Time!
We prefer June to September for the maximum potency of treatment, October to February for a combination of comfort and effectiveness. Either choice is ideal depending on your objectives and preferences. The important thing is to arrive with an intention, enough time, and belief in the healing process. Patience is required according to the Ayurvedic practices.
